MOUNTAIN BIKING: Rutland State Forest

← MA WARE RIVER BARRE MA Single Tracks →

Description

This is actually a network of trails/fire roads starting in Rutland and traveling throught to Barre Fall State park using fire roads. However ther are some amazing loops with in Rutland. Start on the fire road where you parked and work your way up to the old graffiti ravaged prison camps on the left - take that left and travel upwards and stay on this trail (no name). This will take you around the forest. You will eventually come to an old train track that is now paved, and steep hills on either side so it is very narrow. But the scenery is breathtaking. Rest here a bit because then your in for a couple great climbs. Watch out for horseback riders and wild turkeys.

Directions

From Worcester - Tatnuck Sq area - follow Route 122 for about 10-15 miles into Rutland. Take a Right at the lake (which is on the left). Go up the road about 1/2 mile, take a left then an immedite right into the park. Drive about 2/3 of a mile through some beautiful scenery. You come to a small bridge and the road splits to fire road on the right and paves road on the left. There will ba a lake on the left and you'll be able to see a camping area across the lake.. Park anywhere.
